July 16, 2008: Save history with a good decision

in

To The Editor:
Save a piece of history—the old Halcottsville Mill House. It seems to me that with today’s technology and expertise we should be able to renovate the bridge without damaging the Mill House.
One possibility would be to build a new bridge downstream of the present bridge. The town supervisor, rather than criticizing the property, should be happy to have local enterprises listed in the Delaware Tourism booklet.
Our county officials (including the department of public works) should be doing all they can to preserve tourism in Delaware County.
Let’s have a resolution that does not destroy—but builds a better community.
