Jan. 27, 2010: Waiting for spring to enjoy Catskills

To The Editor:
In the middle of November we closed on our small mountainside cabin in Margaretville. We had spent a few months looking at affordable places in the Catskill Mountains and finally settled on the Margaretville area. The rural setting, mountain views, quaint Village of Margaretville, special eating establishments and the friendly people convinced us this is where we want to have our “special” house.
With the help of Axel from Frank Lumia Real Estate we found something that was affordable and fit our needs. We are in the process of getting set-up for 2010 and hope to spend as much time in the area as possible.
The thing that really keeps us connected while we are at home on Long Island is the arrival in the mail each week of the Catskill Mountain News. It helps to keep us involved and informed as to what is going on in the area. It makes us feel like part of the community there.
We came up in early January and were met with area winter snow. It was very interesting getting back and forth to our mountain retreat, especially the trip down the snow covered, icy roads. We flatlanders aren’t used to this and I must say the 4-wheel drive on my SUV got more use then, than in the seven years I have owned it.
Anyway, we are looking forward to an early spring so that we can really enjoy the wonders of the area.
