Jade Litaker brings her musical gifts to the college stage

By John Bernhardt
As a high school student, she charmed and delighted local audiences on the Andes Central School stage. Her impressive singing voice helped bring to life, among others, legendary musical characters like Jasmine of “Aladdin,” Mabel of “The Pirates of Penzance” and Mrs. Potts of “Beauty and the Beast.”
Last month Jade Litaker shared her musical gifts with a new audience, as the first actress of the quintet, sometimes referred to as the Liebeslieder Singers, five singers who commented like a Greek chorus throughout the Marywood University production of “A Little Night Music” with lyrics and music by Stephen Sondheim.
Litaker, a freshman at Marywood, a coeducational Catholic liberal arts university with a campus in Scranton, Pennsylvania dazzled. As folks who attended shows at Andes would expect, Litaker is pursuing a music performance degree.
A caravan of some 20 former teachers, family members, students, and friends trekked from Andes to Scranton on Saturday to watch her perform. No one came home disappointed as Litaker used her memorable sound to bring another from of meaning to this classic musical tale.
