Hospital's health fair offered screenings, community info

More than 125 members of the public took advantage of the free services provided at Margaretville Hospital’s annual Spring Health on May 8. The Health Fair was a cooperative effort that involved hospital staff, plus representatives of several outside agencies, who teamed to provide complimentary services and literature on numerous topics.
The screenings offered at the Health Fair included: blood pressure, blood glucose, CO breath analyzer/pulse oximeter (lung function) and hearing tests.
The event also featured health care information on smoking cessation and nutrition.
Outside agencies represented were: Ulster County Healthy Living, the Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Delaware County and Well Spouse.
Hospital departments participating in the event were: Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, the Emergency Department, the Family Health Centers and the Nursing Department. The Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center also had a booth.
In keeping with the “wellness” theme of the Health Fair, Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville donated a “Family Weekend for Four” at its new Lakeview Lodge to be used in a prize drawing. The winner of the drawing was Arkville resident Elizabeth Johnson. The complimentary weekend will focus on the many healthy activities that Frost Valley offers as part of its programming.
The Health Fair was coordinated by Deb Caronia, RN. The Freshtown Supermarket in Margaretville donated a food platter as part of the Health Fair refreshments.
Margaretville Hospital, a 15-bed acute care facility, and Mountainside Residential Care Center, an 82-bed long-term care home, are members of HealthAlliance.
