Holiday Musings shows on tap for Open Eye
Margaretville — Communities of the Western Catskills are invited to The Open Eye Theater’s Winter Open House for a reading performance of “Holiday Musings”—a dozen stories, poems, plays and monologues about winter holidays.
The open house and performances are Saturday, Dec. 29, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m., at The Open Eye Theater, 960 Main Street, Margaretville.
“We wanted to do something special, relaxed, and fun the weekend between Christmas and New Years. We wanted to invite friends who visit us often, and those who have not seen the theater since it was rebuilt,” remarked The Open Eye Theater producing artistic director Amie Brockway in making the announcement.
“These are amusing and moving reflections on our winter holidays starting with Thanksgiving and continuing to the New Year. Some are historic or traditional favorites; others are contemporary writings by local authors. Several came to us from members of Writers in the Mountains.”
Local authors include Jack McShane, Bethany Saltman, Rob Greenberg, Patrick Hyland, Wilma Mazo, Amie Brockway, Elizabeth Sherr, and Diane Rivoli. Some writers will read their own works. Other readers include John Exter, Laura Battelani, Rebecca Saunders, Marcy Thorne and Bill Piervincenzi. There is an opportunity for more readers to join the program, men and women of all ages. Phone 586-1689 if you’d like to participate.
There is no admission charge to The Open House and “Holiday Musings.” Members of the staff and board of trustees will greet guests, and some will appear on stage. The audience is invited to join in informal conversation with the writers and readers as they enjoy hot drinks and other light refreshments. There will be an opportunity for those who wish to contribute to The Open Eye Theater Roof Fund.
Admission is free. Reservations are recommended. Please phone 586-1660 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
