Hobart man faces multiple charges after robbery, getaway
A 41-year-old Hobart man was arrested on multiple charges following a robbery car chase involving Village of Delhi Police and State Police on February 21.
Delhi Police arrested Jamel Wilson on counts of Robbery Third, Petit Larceny and Harassment Second, stemming from the alleged burglary at the Country Store in Delhi. State Police additionally charged Wilson with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance Seventh.
The incident began at approximately 4:12 a.m. when Delhi Police responded to the Sunoco gas station in the Village of Delhi for a reported robbery that had just occurred.
Pushed clerk, took cash
Upon arrival, officers determined that the suspect had pushed the store clerk out of the way and stole an unspecified amount of cash. They ascertained a suspect and vehicle description.
At the same time State Troopers from the Margaretville barracks were finishing assisting a motorist in the Town of Roxbury when they heard the radio transmission regarding the robbery. State Troopers began to patrol toward County Route18 in an attempt to locate the suspect vehicle, which reportedly was headed in that direction after fleeing the robbery.
At approximately 4:36 am, while patrolling on County Route 18 in the Town of Stamford, State Troopers observed the suspect vehicle. The troopers immediately turned and conducted a vehicle and traffic law stop taking the suspect into custody without further incident. All proceeds from the robbery were found in the vehicle.
Wilson was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Stanford Court. The suspect was then turned over to the Village of Delhi Police for their robbery investigation. An Investigator from the Troop C Major Crimes assisted with the interview. Wilson was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court on the charges related to the robbery and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $15,000.00 cash bail.
