Henry E. Weisgerber II
Henry E. Weisgerber II, 83, of Roxbury died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at his home after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Henry was born in the Bronx on August 15, 1929, the son of Henry and Helen (Cornell) Weisgerber. Henry’s love of the Catskill Mountains made him a long-time resident. He was active in Revolutionary and Civil War reenactments. Mountain-man history was of particular interest to him and he enjoyed many years of involvement in this passion. He was known to many of his friends as “Dirt Dog.”
Henry was also highly involved in the Catskill Mountain Rail Raider’s Club, entertaining many people on the scenic train ride in Arkville. Henry served his country in the U.S. Army. He was loved by many for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He retired from Bell Telephone Company.
Surviving are a brother, Arthur, and his wife, Barbara Weisgerber, of North Carolina; daughters Karen and her husband Mihail Branzburg, Erica and her husband Chris Bray, Enid Hulse and her companion Shayne Shaffer; a son, Arne and his wife Ruth Weisgerber, and a step-daughter, Lynn, and her husband Brad Keator. Eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many close friends also survive.
He was predeceased by a sister, Merial Mulholland, and sons, Henry Weisgerber III and Karl John Weisgerber.
Calling hours were held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012.
A funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Sacred Heart Church in Margaretville with the Rev. Paul Catena as celebrant. A committal service followed at the Margaretville Cemetery Annex.
Donations in memory of Henry E. Weisgerber may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
