Helen E. Finch, 91, of Margaretville, passed away Wednesday. April 22, 2009 at Mountainside Residential Care Center, at Margaretville. She was born July 23, 1917, on the family farm in the Red Kill Valley, Bedell, the daughter of Carson and Edith (Kittle) Kelly. She married Clinton Finch on Sept. 17, 1944, at the United Methodist Church, Fleischmanns.
Helen worked at the Maples Boarding House in Halcott Center for many years and also at the laundry owned by Emerson and Mildred Kelly. She later was the rural route carrier for the postal service in the Halcott Center area for 25 years.
Helen loved to bake for family and friends. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband, Clinton, and working with her flowers and gardens.
She graduated from the Fleischmanns High School in June 1936.
Surviving are a son, Carson Finch, Arkville; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ronald Hull, Margaretville, daughter, Sharon Finch, Florida; brother, Hilton Kelly, Fleischmanns; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and –nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton Finch, Dec. 31, 2002.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25 at the Advent Christian Church, Margaretville, with the Rev. Harold Patterson and Adrian Todd, officiating.
Burial is in Clovesville Cemetery, Fleischmanns.
Donations may be made in memory of Helen E. Finch to the Memorial Fund of the Advent Christian Church, Margaretville.
