Hedwig Dammann, 94, of Main Street, Pine Hill, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville. She was born April 9, 1914 in Bavaria, Germany, the daughter of the late Waldemar and Olga Hundt Spitzbarth. At the age of 12, she and her parents immigrated to the New York City metropolitan area where she attended and graduated from school in 1931.
She married Claus Dammann on August 25, 1934.
Mrs. Dammann was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 333, Margaretville.
In 1946 Claus and Hedwig bought the Pine Hill Arms Hotel, which they operated until 1973 when it was sold to Robert and Valerie Konefal.
Surviving are two daughters, Lydia Bockholt of Florida and Annette McNamara of Tennessee, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Claus, who passed away on March 22, 1991.
A memorial service at the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home is planned for a later date. Private burial will take place on Monday afternoon at the crest of the Pine Hill Cemetery.
