Harvey Slauson, 76, of Roxbury passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 at Mountainside Residential Care Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1933 in Vega, the son of Howard and Laura Finch Slauson. He married Mary Ives in December 1953.
For 30 years he owned and operated Lokel Amusement Company then lived in Fort Myers, Florida for 15 years and returned to Roxbury in 2000.
He was chief of the Halcottsville Fire Department when he lived in Halcottsville.
Harvey was a member of the United Methodist Church in North Fort Myers, Florida and was formerly a member of the United Methodist Church in Halcottsville.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Mary Slauson; a brother, Raymond and wife Alberta; three children, Robert and wife Nancy, Dianne Balcom and husband Ben and Jeff; two grandchildren, Robert Jr. and Dennis and wife Heather and two great-grandchildren, Dennis Jr. and Autumn Joy. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville, or the Halcottsville Fire Department.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury with Pastor Peg VanSiclen officiating.
Committal service will be held in the spring at Halcottsville Cemetery, Halcottsville.
Calling hours will be at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury on Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m.
