Grand Gorge FD hosts banquet

The Grand Gorge Hose Company No. 1 hosted its annual banquet at the firehouse on March 14. Over 60 people attended the event including members and guests from Stamford, Roxbury, Conesville and Prattsville.
President Jim Hull announced the fire department’s officers for the next year. They are: Chief, DJ Speenburgh; First Assistant Chief, Wink Hinkley; Second Assistant Chief, Mike Dorrance; Captains, Ed Docskalik and Josh Ernst; Vice President, Dan Ballard; Secretary, Dan Pickett; Treasurer, Jack VanValkenburgh and Stewards, Gene Brainerd, Deb Brainerd and Karen Speenburgh.
Chief DJ Speenburgh presented Herb VanAken with a gift certificate for his 55 years of service to the department and recognized Jack VanValkenburgh for his 35 years of service.
EMS Co-Captain Karen Hinkley outlined highlights from the previous year and announced the following service anniversaries; EMT Betsy Bussiere, 10 years and EMT Wayne DeForest, five years. Presentations were also made to past co-captains Laurel VanAken and Susan Dorrance for their service. New web sites for the department and squad were also unveiled – www.ggfire.homestead.com and www.ggrescue.homestead.com.
District Commissioner Tom Miner reviewed the previous year’s highlights of the department and presented the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad with a plaque recognizing their 50th anniversary.
A prime rib dinner was catered by The Hidden Inn of South Kortright.
