George Firment Jr.

George Firment Jr., 86, a resident of Shavertown in the Town of Andes, died Monday July 23, 2012 at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

George was born on July 23, 1926 on the family farm in Shavertown, the son of George Firment Sr. and Mary Pekala.  He married Barbara Klindt on August 21, 1949 at Margaretville.

George was born and farmed on the family farm in Shavertown where he has spent all of his life. He enjoyed being around lots of his friends, country music and dancing at the community hall. He liked to watch local sports and games in which his son Stephen played.

George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Firment; daughters, Nancy O’Rielly, JoAnn Firment, Elizabeth Hochmuth, Shirley Roth, Ann and Mark Kehoe; and a son, Stephen and his wife, Therese Firment. Eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a sister Mary Eckert also survive.

He was predeceased by four infant brothers; a sister, Helen Byrne; and a grandson, Travis Winner.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

A funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday July 27, 2012 at the Hynes Funeral Home with the Rev. Bert More officiating. A committal service will follow at the Shavertown Cemetery.
Donations in memory of George Firment Jr. may be made to the Ambulance Fund of the Andes Fire Department.
