There will be a memorial service for Gay Eppenbach Purvine as a celebration of her life, on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, Lake Delaware. Gay, 65, passed away on December 13, 2007 from cancer, at her home with her loved ones around her.
She was born April 10, 1942 in Weaver Hollow, Andes. She attended Andes Central School where she graduated as salutatorian of her class.
She married Liston Purvine in 1963 becoming a proud member of the Purvine Family of Oregon. Gay earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing while living in Wisconsin. IBM moved the family south where Gay designed and built her dream home.
Gay was an avid gardener, horseback rider and Chihuahua lover. She also spent many carefree days tending the property of her childhood home in the Catskills, tracing her genealogy and visiting relatives.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Liston Purvine; her lifelong best friend and cousin, Ron Guichard; her daughter, Lauri Purvine Burmeister and husband, Greg of Asheville; two sons, Dan Purvine and wife. Kelly of Cary and Larry Purvine and wife, Sonya of Youngsville. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Greg, Ally, Austin and Robert and cousins, David Guichard and wife Virginia, Ralph Reed and wife Jean, Chris Niedziocha and wife, Carol, Marie Fischer, Ron Guichard and wife Diane.
Her father and mother, Albert and Beatrice Eppenbach, preceded her in death.
