Fritz Wickert Sr.
Fritz Wickert Sr., 89, passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital Hospice Unit, Albany on Friday, July 4, 2008. He was born in Yugoslavia on March 2, 1919, the son of Fritz and Susanna (Muller) Wickert. He married Susanna (Groh) Wickert on September 1, 1938.
Fritz came to the United States in 1956 from Germany and lived in New York City before moving to Roxbury. He operated a dairy farm in Roxbury from 1959 to 1965 then moved to Albany where he worked as a butcher at Albany Medical Center.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Fritz and Donna Wickert, Albany; a daughter and son-in-law, Reinlinde and Jacob Gerhardt, Germany; nine grandchildren, Kerry Michele, Kimberly and her husband, Marc Donato, Michael, Briditte, Ralf, Bernd, Philipp, Fritz and Jacob. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Susanna Wickert on April 25, 1991 and a son, Philipp Wickert on August 10, 2004.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury with Rev. Richard A. Dykstra officiating. Burial was in the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury. Arrangements were by Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
