Frederick R Colie Jr.
Shaker Heights, OH – Sarasota, FL - Frederic R. Colie, Jr. died after a long illness on September 16, 2012, his 83rd birthday, with his loving wife, Judy, by his side.
Born in East Orange, NJ, in 1929, Fred graduated from The Lawrenceville School (NJ) and attended Rutgers University (NJ) and Syracuse University (NY) majoring in animal husbandry and forest management. He was an Army Captain in the Korean War and a decorated veteran. The majority of his working years were spent as a regional sales manager for U.S. Borax and Chemical Company (CA). When he retired he worked as a consultant for Seaforth Mineral (OH).
He was the son of the late Judge Frederic Colie and Rosalie Colie of Short Hills, NJ. He was formally married to the artist, Mary Spain, before she succumbed to cancer.
He leaves his wife, Judith (Miller) to whom he was married for over 27 years. He also leaves his two daughters, Caroline Colie and Betsy Colie; three stepsons, Frank Jewett, Stephen Jewett and Joshua Jewett; as well as two grandsons, Jonathan Metz and Thomas Metz; and five step-granddaughters, Molly Jewett, Abby Jewett, Kathryn Jewett, Rebecca Jewett and Sarah Jewett.
His passions in life were family and friends, his volunteer work and his hobbies of fly-fishing and upland hunting.
He was a life time member of the following volunteer fire companies: Chagrin Falls (OH), Ringoes (NJ) and Arena (NY) and a member of the Cleveland Skating Club (OH), Tuscarora Club (NY) and former member of the Chagrin Valley Country Club (OH) and Amwell Valley Conservancy (NJ).
Services will be private.
