Fleischmanns History Day is planned for Oct 12

Fleischmanns — The Village of Fleischmanns will continue the celebration of its 100th anniversary as an incorporated village with a day full of events on Saturday, Oct. 12.
At 11:30 a.m., the unveiling of a new historic marker will take place in front of the gazebo.  Bill Birns will M.C. the ceremony.
Then at noon, Skene Library will host an hour-long program celebrating the history of the village entitled,  “Talking about the Old Days.”   It will feature brief talks by numerous speakers, touching on topics such as the first European settlers here, the coming of the rail road, the Fleischmann family’s time here, early base ball, the hotels, growing up in Fleischmanns, the resurgence in the 1950s, and the counter-culture in the ’70s. 
Fleischmanns First will be holding its Pumpkin Fest event that day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.    Included in the schedule are Pick-your-own-Pumpkin behind the River Run, and Scarecrow-making and pumpkin-decorating activities at the gazebo. 
The museum will be open later that afternoon for its final day of the 2013 season.
