Fleischmanns Comprehensive Plan is focus of Oct. 22 meeting
Fleischmanns — The Village of Fleischmanns Comprehensive Plan Committee is seeking public input on Fleischmanns’ draft Comprehensive Plan. The public hearing on Oct. 22 will include a brief presentation on what a Comprehensive Plan is and highlight some of the key recommendations contained within the draft Comprehensive Plan.
A community’s Comprehensive Plan, or “Master Plan” as it is often called, articulates a community’s vision for its future, and contains goals and recommendations designed to guide future growth. “The Comprehensive Plan forms the basis for zoning and land use regulations in a village,” explained Alan Sorensen, planning consultant, “so it is a very important document.”
In November of 2008, the village board retained the services of Mr. Sorensen to assist the Comprehensive Plan Committee in creating a new Comprehensive Plan for Fleischmanns. Since that time, the committee has held regularly scheduled monthly meetings at the Skene Memorial Library. It also held a public visioning session on May 9, 2009 to seek additional public input into the development of the new Comprehensive Plan. The result of these efforts is a draft Comprehensive Plan that is now available for the public to review.
“We are seeking public input on the draft Comprehensive Plan so we are encouraging residents to attend this public hearing,” said Comprehensive Plan Committee Member Larry Reilly.
The public hearing will also provide the public with an opportunity to provide comments on the draft Comprehensive Plan.
Copies of the draft Comprehensive Plan can be reviewed at the Skene Memorial Library or you can view the document online at: www.planitmain-street.com/fleischmanns.html. Comments may also be e-mailed to Village39@Catskill.net with “Comp Plan Comments” in subject line or by mail to: Village of Fleischmanns, Attn: Comprehensive Plan Comments, P.O. Box 339, Fleischmanns, NY 12430-0339. Comments should be received no later than November 7.
All Village of Fleischmanns residents are encouraged to attend the public hearing at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Skene Memorial Library, Main Street, Fleischmanns.
