Fire department history exhibit at hall

Margaretville – A new exhibit in the history display case at the Middletown Town Hall spotlights the history of the town’s fire departments.
Town Historian Shirley Davis assembled the display with assistance and memorabilia from George Hendricks. Len and Betty Utter and Kyle Holden also supplied materials for the exhibit, which will run through May and can be seen from 9 to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
The town hall is located on Route 28, between Margaretville and Arkville.
The exhibit includes several items from the Margaretville Fire Department and its predecessors: an old uniform dress hat from Excelsior Hook & Ladder Co., a Pakatakan Hose Co. badge, an  Excelsior truck lantern, a fireman’s lantern and trumpet and an old hose nozzle. There is also a Winner’s Cup from a parade July 4, 1913.
From Arena comes an old uniform dress hat, a copy of the department’s bylaws, a fireman’s trumpet (bullhorn); a 100-year anniversary article and photo; and a photo of old Arena.
Arkville Fire Department contributed a vintage uniform dress hat and two badges; the Arkville Fire District seal press; a trophy won at a parade in Cobleskill in 1985; and a brochure from a firefighters’ convention with history of AFD. Fleischmanns and Halcottsville departments are also illustrated by photographs and information.
