Fear the renewal notice

in

To The Editor:
I just receive my homeowner’s insurance renewal notice and it is infuriating.
For 2013 my homeowner’s insurance premium was $316. For 2014 the premium will be $521, a 65 percent increase.  I do not have flood insurance on my house as it is on a mountainside. In 10 years of coverage I have never been late on a payment.
When rates go up like that it speaks to the huge issues facing our area.  I have checked several places for quotes and they are even higher!  To be clear, agents are not the issue here, it is the insurance companies. They do not want to write policies for us.  We need to get unemployment down and foster new businesses.
Draw your own conclusion as to why this is happening but for now, fear the renewal notice.
