Elizabeth Nichols

Elizabeth M. Nichols, 88, of Fleischmanns passed away June 9, 2012 at Margaretville Hospital.
Elizabeth was born in Freeport on April 15, 1924 to Florence Knapp and Harry Thompson (both deceased) from New Kingston. Elizabeth married John G. Hoffman Jr. during WW II.  They raised six children in Bolton Landing,

Elizabeth received her associate registered nurse degree while she was raising her children.  She worked in many areas of nursing including an early heart and lung transplant center in Montana and a burn unit in Maryland. She always said, “My two favorite places were Johns Hopkins and Margaretville Memorial Hospital.” She had a lot of good memories and experiences from both.
Elizabeth retired and moved to Lincoln, MT where she truly enjoyed her retirement.

She was an avid reader and loved history. She especially liked Montana history.  She spent many hours sitting in her yard along the banks of Spring Creek with her rescue kitty, Mittens,
reading her books or just enjoying the nature around her. Elizabeth had many friends in Lincoln. She really loved the people there and helped out in the community when she could.   She enjoyed baking, painting, woodcarving, and quilting.  Elizabeth made quilts for all her children and grandchildren, and many more for others. Her quilts were very beautiful and people always said she had an eye for putting colors and patterns together.

When her health began to fail she moved to Fleischmanns with her daughter Bonnie. She remained there for four years.  She continued to quilt after she moved and had a quilting buddy, Andrea. They got together once a week and what started out as a table runner became a quilt.

All the while she was here her heart was always in Lincoln, picking huckleberries with her friend or another adventure like shopping or Red Hat Club. She really missed her friend and loved ones from Lincoln.  Elizabeth is at peace now and will be missed by all, especially her Mitty and Molly, her four-legged children.  God Bless you and we will see you on the mountain some day.

Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Mack of Fleischmanns; sons Quenton L. Hoffman and Karen Blandchard of Helena, MT, Michael G. Hoffman and his wife Janet of Lincoln, MT, Gregory D. Hoffman and his wife Rosaire of Lincoln, MT and a nephew, Richard Thompson and his wife Paula of Helena, MT.

She was predeceased by two sons, Lawrence Weaver and John G. Hoffman III.

Family committal service will take place in Montana at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
