Doris E. Smith, 96, of Roxbury, passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at the residence of her daughter, Nancy Purchell, in Grand Gorge.
She was born August 29, 1913, in Blackbrook, the daughter of Edward and Lillian (Senecal) Disco.
She married H. Ivan Smith on October 30, 1933, in Bloomingdale.
Doris was a homemaker and assisted her husband, Ivan in the operation of the Gulf Gas Station in Roxbury until 1977. She moved to Roxbury from Albany, and had lived in Roxbury since 1945.
She was a member of the Roxbury Senior Citizens Club and the Sacred Heart Parish. Doris was the last surviving member of the Roxbury Pinochle Club.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, June (John) Ford of Roxbury, Nancy Purchell of Grand Gorge and Cheryl (Duane) Ely of Roxbury; brother, Edward Disco of Dunedin, Fla; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Michael Granato, Utica; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, H. Ivan Smith April 3, 1984; great-granddaughter, Emma Burgess and sisters, Helen O’Brien and Julia Herzing and a brother, Peter Disco.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30 at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell officiating.
Burial will be in Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.
