Devils clip Eagles in Downsville

Shock and awe describes the Margaretville boys’ basketball team’s long-range artillery in Downsville last Thursday night. The Blue Devils opened the game with a blistering outside shooting display, amassing 27 first-period points in a 66-34 rout of their hosts. Nine, three-point Margaretville bombs would hit the mark on the night.
“I never saw anything like it,” said Margaretville coach Jeremey Marks. “I think we only missed three or four shots in the entire first half,” he concluded. The Blue Devil marksmen took a 47-17 lead to the lockers by halftime.
Pinpoint outside shooting stretches a defense, providing space for the inside players to finish their moves around the basket. That was the case on Thursday with Margaretville center Mitch Hull leading the offensive barrage with 19 points. Ryan Sanford added eight more points to the Blue Devils’ score from the strong forward slot.
Five three-point goals totaled 15 points for Blue Devil sharpshooter Kyle Short. Cooper Reither tallied 13 points that included three shots from behind the arc.
The victory improves the Blue Devils’ record to 7-1, 4-1 in league play. They face two stiff tests this week, traveling to Davenport Wednesday and playing in Stamford on Friday.
