David James Hitt, 66, of Margaretville died March 18, 2012 at Lee, MA.
He was born June 21, 1945 in Margaretville, the son of Melchior and Helen (Close) Hitt. He married Sandra Fairbairn on September 19, 1967 in Andes.
David served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War receiving the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for the service he gave to his country.
He was employed atthe Frasier creamery for 20 years and also at the bat factory in Shandaken. He lived on the family farm in Jones Hollow in the Town of Andes where he helped operate the farm.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Hitt; sons James and John Hitt; two grandsons, Michael and Shawn; a stepdaughter, Opal Fairbairn, and a brother Floyd Hitt. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by daughter, Caro-lyn Rosa and a son, David Hitt Jr.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday March 30, 2012 at the Andes
Cemetery in Andes. The Rev. Gerald Norris will officiate.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
