Congressional candidate Murphy off & running
Delhi — Scott Murphy, Democratic Candidate for the U.S. 20th Congressional District, officially opened his Delaware County headquarters last Wednesday. Approximately 40 Delaware County constituents gathered at the 98 Main Street, Delhi headquarters to meet the candidate, ask questions and speak with him directly.
Murphy also was the guest speaker at the Delaware County Democratic Committee (DCDC) monthly meeting. The meeting was held at SUNY Delhi and was open to the public. The meeting also included a question and answer session. At this meeting, the DCDC officially endorsed Scott Murphy.
DCDC Chair, Cindy Lockrow-Schimmerling, was pleased with the turnout. “The enthusiastic response, excellent questions and articulation of local issues during Scott’s visit made me realize how invested Delaware County voters are in continuing the excellent work of now Senator Gillibrand. Scott Murphy is highly qualified to do so,” she commented.
Murphy is running against Republican Jim Tedisco to fill the seat vacated by Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand’s appointment to the Senate. Murphy, a Glens Falls resident, made investments in promising upstate New York companies as a managing director of Advantage Capital, a venture firm.
He described himself as a fiscally conservative businessman, who understands the role government can play in promoting or hindering the development of regional businesses. He also pledged to continue Gillibrand’s popular open government policies such as publishing meeting schedules, earmark disclosures and “Congress on Your Corner.” The special election is scheduled for March 31.
