Commons dance studio is now open for classes

Margaretville — Dancer/choreographer Gloria McLean has announced that the Dance Studio in the Commons is open for classes.
Formerly Ujjayi Mountain Wellness Center, the studio now offers modern dance, Yoga and Latin dance with more in the works, including performances, film showings and workshops. Her mission is to provide a center for contemporary dance and movement arts in Delaware County.
McLean, an Andes resident, is taking over the studio from Yoga teacher Darnita Lesure, who accepted a job using Yoga as a therapeutic modality with outpatients in a hospital in Maui, Hawaii. Gloria is pleased to also have colleagues Kris Anne Eignor, Phyllis Whitehouse and Jacinto Jorge on board teaching their specialties.
“Movement is the essence of life, and dance is for everybody,” says Gloria. Classes are open to all levels, no prior experience needed. Wear comfortable clothes.

Studio Director Gloria McLean is a modern dancer, choreographer and teacher based in New York and Andes. She was a leading dancer with modern dance pioneer Erick Hankins for 11 years before forming Lifedance/Gloria McLean & Dancers which has performed and taught in the U.S. and internationally. The New York Times called her “an intelligent, witty and sensuous choreographic voice.” She began bringing modern dance events to The Hunting Tavern in Andes in 2003, receiving funding from NYSCA/DEC through The Roxbury Arts Center. Her classes offer a gentle, clear and effective approach to training through principles of natural movement and kinesiology, rhythm and musicality.
