Coaches vs. Cancer at MCS
This Friday and next, Margaretville Central School will take part in the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer awareness program. MCS will donate all of the admission proceeds from this Friday's boys' varsity game and next Friday's girls' varsity game to the American Cancer Society to benefit cancer research. This week's game starts at 7 p.m., when the Blue Devils play host to the visiting Wildcats of Gilboa. Next week's game also starts at 7 p.m., when the Margaretville girls take on the visiting Mountaineers of Andes.
In addition to the donation of admission proceeds, the games will also feature pledge cards and halftime shootout competitions; in addition, donations to the American Cancer Society will be accepted at the door.
Schools throughout the country participate in Coaches vs. Cancer nights, wherein coaches appeal to fans and communities to join their teams in the fight against cancer.
The American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) joined forces in 1993 to make Coaches vs. Cancer a nationwide effort to unite coaches across the country in the common mission to provide help and hope to all people facing cancer.
Today, more than 500 college coaches are involved in the program, as well as more than 100 high school coaches.
