Christopher P. Fusscas, 103, a resident of Andes, died Sunday March 24, 2013 at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.
Chris was born December 1, 1909 in New York City, the son of Peter and Yanecha (Portochalachi) Fouskas. He married Genevieve Morse on April 5, 1941 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Margaretville.
Chris was well known in the Andes and Delhi area as the former co-owner of the Andel Inn, also referred to by the local residents as “The Greeks,” along with his brother, George. He was born to immigrant parents in a cold-water flat on the lower East Side of Manhattan near Avenue A and 6th Street. This is where Chris learned the meaning of work ethic at a very young age.
He enjoyed reading and playing cards and dancing with his beloved wife, Genevieve. He spent a year-and-a-half at Columbia University as a medical student.
Chris is survived by his wife, Genevieve, of Andes; a daughter, Donna Marie Martino, of Andes; five grandchildren, Richard McDonald of Rochester, Randy McDonald and wife, Sharon, of Albany, Robert McDonald and wife Mary, Karen Talbott of Maryland and Seth Emerson and wife Dawn of North Carolina. Ten great-grandchildren and a sister, Celia Kraker, also survive.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen McDonald, on April 13, 2008.
Calling hours will held at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville on Thursday, March 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the Hynes Funeral Home on Friday March 29 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Hiram Davis officiating.
