Chloe Maxim Kratochvil Pebler, 77, formerly of Roxbury, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
She was a native and lifelong resident of the Catskill Mountains.
Chloe was born in Fleischmanns on May 19, 1934, the daughter of the late Hiram and Chloe Vermilya Maxim.
She was a graduate of Fleischmanns High School, former member of the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church and a trophy winning league bowler. Chloe was a talented knitter and one who loved to crochet many afghans.
Years ago she worked at the Mayport Naval Base in Florida and had worked locally as both a bartender and waitress. She had also worked for the Catskill Mountain News for over 10 years.
Surviving are her children: Chris and his wife, Lila Kratochvil of Grand Gorge, Lynn and Kelly of Vermont, Teresa and her husband, Iven Clark of Harpersfield, Linda and her husband, Bruce LaFond of Lisle; a sister, Patricia Kratochvil of Roxbury; brothers: Wayne Maxim of Grand Gorge, Allen Maxim of Fleischmanns, Ray Maxim of Georgia and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Pebler of Prattsville; 12 grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Isaac Goldstein, Jessica Boland, Ava Ciaravino and Marguerite Kratochvil. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Kratochvil in 2001; sons, Ray in 1983 and Glenn in 2006 and brothers, Robert and Burton.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Chloe will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church.
Private burial will take place in the spring.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Mountainside Residential Care Center Sunshine Fund, Margaretville.
