Business funding available from county
The Delaware County Department of Economic Development announced Friday that it will begin accepting applications from local businesses and entrepreneurs for funding through the Micro Enterprise Start-up and Expansion grant program. Through the start-up and expansion grant, new or expanding micro enterprise businesses are eligible to apply for a working capital grant of up to a maximum of $5,000.
The grant funds may be used to offset a portion of the working capital requirements associated with either starting or expanding a business. Applicants will be required to demonstrate a minimum of one new job being created through the start-up or expansion of the business. Grants will be made on a reimbursement basis and will require a minimum of a 50/50 match by the applicant. As a requirement under the start-up and expansion grant, applicants will be required to submit a current business plan for review with their application.
Applications submitted under this round of funding must be postmarked by, or if hand delivered, received by the Department of Economic Development by close of business on Monday, Sept. 15. Applications will be reviewed and awards will be announced by the end of October. Future funding rounds will depend upon the number of quality applications received and approved during the September funding round.
To assist business owners in meeting the business plan submission requirement, department staff will be available to assist one-on-one. Addition-ally, the department will sponsor an annual Building a Successful Small Business workshop this fall focusing on writing a viable business plan. The small business workshop is scheduled to begin at the end of September. Furthermore, the department, in cooperation with the Delaware County E Center will be offering free trainings such as QuickBooks, Web Designing, Bookkeeping, Financial Management and an in-depth Marketing series to income eligible small business employees and owners. Individuals interested in participating in the workshop are encouraged to contact the department for further details on the program.
