Bow hunting pemits offered at NYPA

North Blenheim —The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will offer a limited number of permits for bow hunting on designated areas around its Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project for use during the 2010 hunting season, October 19 through December 21.

One hundred bow hunting permits will be selected by lottery. For an application to participate in the lottery, call 800-724-0309 or write to: New York Power Authority, 2010 Archery Hunt, 1378 State Route 30, P.O. Box 898, North Blenheim, NY 12131.

Completed applications must be returned to NYPA by September 25. The drawing will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28. Successful applicants will receive their permits by mail following the drawing.

To be eligible for the lottery, applicants must have the bow hunters’ proficiency certification. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation certified Bow Hunter Education Instructors will offer the proficiency examination on September 2, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Middleburgh Rod and Gun Club on Middlefort Road in the Town of Middleburgh, and on September 9, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center.

The Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center is located on Route 30, five miles north of Grand Gorge and 17 miles south of Middleburgh.
