Bank Gallery hosts Scheele show

Roxbury — Light infused landscape paintings by Oneonta artist Gerri Scheele will be on exhibit at The Old Bank Gallery of The Roxbury Arts Group from Nov. 8 through Dec. 15. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The paintings, which include upstate pastoral views, cityscapes and shore and seascapes reflect Scheele’s interest in the juxtaposition of nature and man-made elements in everyday landscape. It is a visual theme that she returns to again and again, believing that natural beauty is enhanced by the traces of human presence.
She says that many of her paintings are influenced by her long experience as an active hiker and express her fondness for the back country of the Northeast. The surface of her work is the key to her expression, with the painterly brushstroke essential to the image.
Scheele’s work has been shown in galleries from the Catskills to Cooperstown, in group and solo shows, winning many awards. Her paintings are in several private regional collections.
The Old Bank Gallery at 53484 state Highway 30, Roxbury, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment.
An exhibit of paintings by Neil Driscoll and Lucy Nurkse continues at The Walt Meade Gallery, 5025 Vega Mt. Rd. through Nov. 17.
