Auxiliary kicks off 2013 membership drive

The Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center kicked off its annual Membership Drive on February 7.

The auxiliary has a goal of 500 members during its 2013 membership drive. For a minimum donation of $5, anyone can join the auxiliary and help support the organization’s operating budget.
Pat Tucker, the group’s treasurer, said the donations from membership help the auxiliary pay for items like printing, office supplies and other essential elements.

“Membership funds support the functions of the auxiliary,” she explained. “All of the other money that we raise goes toward our fund-raising commitments to the hospital and Mountainside.”
The auxiliary traditionally raises money through its Thrift Shop in Margaretville, the annual Harvest Moon Ball, the Antique and Flea Market each August, a fashion show and other smaller fund-raising events. In the past five years, the group has raised more than half-a-million dollars to benefit the healthcare campus.

For the hospital, these funds have helped purchase a four-wheel-drive ambulance, a state-of-the-art blood chemistry analyzer, a MUSE cardiology system and a Sonosite Ultrasound for the E.D. Funds donated to Mountainside have been applied for renovation of bath suites, a convection oven, and a medical record back-up system.

Season’s goals
During the current year, the auxiliary’s fund-raising campaign is earmarking money to hopefully assist with the remodeling of the old Emergency Department and Minor Operating Room areas for expansion of the hospital’s Radiology Department.

In addition to fund-raising efforts, the auxiliary’s Wellness Committee is also very active and presents a series of public education programs.

The organization is always looking for volunteers who will help with running its events, or working at the Thrift Shop.

Anyone interested in becoming an Auxiliary Member (memberships are annual) may sign up at the Thrift Shop at 850 Main Street, Margaretville. Or, they can contact any auxiliary member to learn more.
