Auxiliary gearing up for Gatsby themed Harvest Moon Ball
Margaretville — The Great Gatsby will be the theme of the annual Harvest Moon Ball on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Hanah Mountain Resort, Margaretville.
The Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center is sponsoring the event.
Organizers are going all out to recreate the era of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby for an evening of elegant fun. Harvest Moon Ball committee members are using their imaginations to capture the unique Great Gatsby atmosphere of the 1920s. The popular area band Blues Maneuver will entertain with tunes appropriate to the period. The dinner menu will mimic meals served of the galas of that time.
As a special treat, the Auxiliary Thrift Shop in Margaretville will showcase period clothing for anyone wanting to participate in dressing in 1920s attire. Jill Ribich of Catskill Images will set up a photo booth to provide keepsakes for attendees. Connie and Tom Jeffers have offered to display their car a 1930 Ford Model A Sedan as a backdrop for the period photos.
“This promises to be an unforgettable evening,” noted committee member Sue Adams. “We anticipate a large crowd and seating is limited. We encourage everyone to reserve early.”
Riedl is top citizen
In addition to providing a fun night out on the town, the Harvest Moon Ball will feature the presentation of the Keene A. Roadman Hospital Citizen of the Year Award to John Riedl, a longtime supporter of the Catskill Region through his many endeavors. Mr. Riedl is a retired superintendent of Margaretville Central School, as well as a chairperson of the Hospital Auxiliary Wellness Committee and a strong advocate of health and wellness.
Proceeds from the Harvest Moon Ball will be used to help renovate and expand the hospital’s Radiology Department, which includes a new suite to house mammography and bone density equipment.
