Area skiers on a roll heading into state meet

Margaretville’s Ian Williams was the top qualifier for the boys’ state ski championship following the Section IV Ski Championship at Hunter Mountain last week.
Williams, who took first- and third-place finishes in the slalom and giant slalom respectively, was one of 12 skiers to qualify for the state ski championship, which will take place at Bristol Mountain in South Bristol on February 24 and 25.
Williams placed first in the slalom with a run of 66.75 seconds, while Roxbury’s Jacob Liberatore placed third with a time of 72.78. Margaretville’s Jake Brophy placed fifth with a 74.66 as teammate Caleb Todd earned a seventh-place finish for a 76.33 run. Roxbury’s Alex Riordan’s 81.51 run earned him the ninth-place spot.
In the giant slalom, Williams placed third with a 52.37 run, while Liberatore placed seventh with a time of 54.40. Todd placed ninth with a 55.60 run and Roxbury’s Garrett Hinkley rounded out the giant slalom top 10 with a 55.75. Joining Williams at the state championship will be Roxbury’s Liberatore, who qualified sixth, Brophy (8), Todd (9) and Hinkley (12).
In girls’ skiing, Roxbury’s Suzanna Liddle and Haley Walcutt placed seventh and ninth, respectively, in the giant slalom top 10. Liddle earned a time of 59.58 while Walcutt posted a 60.12.
Roxbury teammate Heather Davie earned a sixth-place finish in the slalom top 10 with a time of 84.22, while Liddle posted a 90.41.
Walcutt qualified for the state ski championship at fifth out of 12, while Davie and Liddle qualified seventh and 10th, respectively.
