Area Police News: October 16, 2013
On Tuesday afternoon, October 8, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators, assisted by Sheriff’s Office K-9 Ozzie and state troopers, arrested three area residents on sealed grand jury indictment warrants issued by the Delaware County Court at the conclusion of a nearly year-long home invasion robbery investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division with the assistance of the Delaware County Probation Department.
Arrested on sealed indictment warrants were: Leon G. Grizzard, 32, of South Kortright, Amanda M. Gahan, 27, of Walton, and Andrew T. Dougherty, 27, of Delhi.
Grizzard and Gahan were located and arrested at a Hobart residence. A search of the Hobart residence was conducted by sheriff’s deputies, troopers and sheriff’s office K-9 “Ozzie” and led to the seizure of a quantity of heroin, hypodermic instruments and marihuana.
Dougherty was arrested in the county jail where he is currently serving his sentence on an unrelated conviction.
Grizzard, Dougherty, and Gahan were indicted Monday by a Grand Jury on charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, petit larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The three are accused of unlawfully entering a Town of Tompkins residence in June 2012 and robbing the residents at gunpoint of cash and drugs. First-degree robbery and first-degree burglary are both class B violent felony offenses, which are punishable by maximum terms of imprisonment of up to 25 years.
Following the search of the residence, deputies arrested and charged Gahan with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument. Leon Grizzard, and Jeremy A. Key, 35, of Hobart were each charged with criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument and unlawful possession of Marijuana.
Grizzard, Dougherty, and Gahan were arraigned before County Court Judge Carl F. Becker on Wednesday afternoon and were remanded to the county jail without bail pending further court proceedings.
Key was issued an appearance ticket Tuesday afternoon directing him to appear in the Town of Stamford Court to answer his charges.
Grizzard and Gahan will be arraigned on the drug related charges in the Town of Stamford Court at a later time.
