Area Police News: Oct. 29, 2008

Charles E. Currie, 49, of Hamden was arrested by state police last week Tuesday and charged with DWI after he was stopped for speeding on state Route 10 in Delhi. Police say that during their investigation they discovered that Currie was on felony probation in Delaware County for two previous DWI convictions in the past 10 years. Currie was arraigned in Town of Delhi Justice Court for felony DWI and sent to the county jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Desmond Defreitas, 40, of Gilboa was arrested by state police Wednesday on a criminal warrant issued by the Town of Roxbury Justice Court. Defreitas was committed to the county jail in lieu of $4,000 cash bail to await further court action.

DWI and several traffic violation charges made in March against New York City resident Michael J. Fitzsimmons were dismissed in Town of Middletown Justice Court Friday when Fitzsimmons’ attorney argued that the district attorney had failed to meet defense discovery demands in a timely manner. Fitzsimmons was represented by Stamford attorney Michael A. Jacobs.
