Area Police News: January 9, 2013

A Margaretville woman and two young people, a male and a female, face charges after a drinking party in the woman’s home on December 31 got out of control. Police say the two argued with the woman and threw items around her home. Police also say other youths were also involved in the party.
Police say the woman, Lisa Murphy, 40, of Route 36, Margaretville called them to report the incident. When police arrived they found Erik G. Hall, 20, of Fleischmanns and Stacey M. Post, 19, of Prattsville in the home along with Murphy.
Hall and Post told police that they had arrived at the Murphy home around 1:30 in the afternoon where they began drinking beer. They further told police that when the beer was gone Murphy left and returned with a half-gallon bottle of vodka, which they finished. That’s when the trouble began. An argument ensued and the young people allegedly began throwing things around the home.
Murphy told police that the teens were intoxicated when they arrived at her home and continued to drink in here presence. Murphy called 911 when things got out of control but did not want to press charges against the youths.
Hall and Post were issued appearance tickets charging them with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under 21. Those tickets are returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court on January 17 at 9 a.m.
Murphy was charged with two counts of unlawfully dealing with a child. She was arraigned in Town of Middletown Justice Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail to await further court action.

Two Grand Gorge residents face charges following a motor vehicle accident on December 31.
Police say they charged the driver, Carl W. Dumond, 49, with DWI after his blood alcohol allegedly tested .20 percent. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Roxbury Justice Court on January 16.
Police say they also arrested Joanne L. Hess, 46, a passenger in Dumond’s car, charging her with disorderly conduct after she allegedly became verbally abusive toward troopers. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Roxbury Justice Court on January 16 at 7 p.m.

Two area men were arrested on December 23 and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief after they got into a fight in the men’s room of a Margaretville tavern and did substantial damage.
Police say they charged Jeremiah A. Clark, 31, of Margaretville and Christopher Fairbairn, 36, of Margaretville following the incident. Both men were issued appearance tickets returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court on January 17 at 9 a.m.

A Margaretville man was arrested by state police on January 2 and charged with second-degree harassment after an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend’s son over money when she refused to lend him $800 to buy a used snowmobile. Police say they issued an appearance ticket to Dustin A. Soules, 24. The ticket is returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court on January 10 at 9 a.m.
In a related incident, police say they charged Kyle R. Goodchild, 19, of Margaretville with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment after he pushed his 14-year-old sister into a doorjamb injuring her back after the two argued over the care of a cat.
Goodchild was issued appearance tickets returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court.
Police say the two incidents happened in the same home.
