A Davenport man faces a number of charges after he allegedly attempted to evade state police who were trying to stop his vehicle for a traffic violation on January 23 in Hobart.
State police say they attempted to stop a vehicle operated by Wayne E. Swart, 35, after they noticed it proceeding northbound on Route 10 at 11:02 p.m. with a headlight out. Police say Swart turned off Route 10 onto several lawns and a rail bed and then onto Pine Street before Swart allegedly jumped out of the moving vehicle on the grounds of the Hobart Activity Center.
Police say Swart fled the scene on foot but was later found on foot on Route 10 and arrested. Three passengers in the vehicle exited uninjured.
Swart was charged with DWI, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, resisting arrest, third-degree fleeing police, third-degree criminal mischief, number of vehicle and traffic violations and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
He was arraigned in Town of Stamford Justice Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail to await further court action.
One of the passengers in the vehicle, Vicky L. Knoblauch, 45, of Oneonta was arrested and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration after she allegedly sent text messages to Swart that helped him elude police.
She was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Stamford Justice Court on February 7 at 6 p.m.
Michael R. Boland, 43, of Gilboa was arrested by state police on January 24 on a warrant issued by the Town of Roxbury Justice Court charging him with failure to comply with the terms of a conditional discharge.
Boland was transported to the court where he paid a $855 fine and was released.
Donald R. Zoll, 26, of Grand Gorge was arrested by state police on January 25 and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and with possession of drug paraphernalia after he was stopped on Route 23 in Grand Gorge for two traffic violations.
Police say they charged Zoll when a search of his vehicle allegedly turned up a syringe, a spoon with a moist cotton ball, a suboxone strip and a marijuana pipe with residue.
Zoll was issued appearance tickets returnable in Town of Roxbury Justice Court.
A Bellerose man was charged with second-degree assault on January 28 when he allegedly ran over the foot of a trooper who was writing him a speeding ticket.
State police say they charged Robert Greene, 55, when he became agitated while being written a speeding ticket and pulled away from the scene, allegedly running over a trooper’s foot. The incident happened on Route 28 in the Town of Middletown.
Greene was arraigned in Town of Middletown Justice Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
Charon L. Teeter, 50, of Morris was arrested by state police on January 24 and charged with menacing after he allegedly threatened two Stamford residents with a BB gun.
Teeter was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Village of Stamford Justice Court on February 2.
A Hobart man was arrested by state police on January 27 and faces a number of charges following an argument with his wife. Police say Jason P. Grizzard, 28, returned to his home in an intoxicated state demanding to know what had become of his washer and dryer. Police say that when his wife told him that she had sold them for money on which to live he became enraged and grabbed her by the throat and began yelling at her. He also allegedly then began to break up the furniture within the residence.
He was arraigned in Town of Stamford Justice Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail.
Grizzard was charged with DWI, second-degree harassment and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
