Andes, Margaretville girls post wins
The Andes and Margaretville girls’ soccer teams posted victories last week.
Andes 4, Windham 2
Area leading scorer Mariah Ruff added four goals to her tally on Thursday, as the visiting Mountaineers posted a 4-2 victory over the host Warriors of Windham. Andes moved to 2-6-1 in the league and 5-8 overall as they head into the final week of regular-season competition.
Margaretville 4, Jefferson 3 (OT)
Karla Nava scored the game-winning goal just over a minute into the second overtime period to lift the host Blue Devils to a 4-3 win over the visiting JayHawks of Jefferson on Thursday.
Nava’s goal came off a pass from Amy Filupeit, which she drilled into the upper net from outside the 18-yard box. Filupeit tallied two assists for the Blue Devils, who received goals from Erica Faulkner, Rachel Mathiesen and Tess Svoboda.
The Blue Devils, who out-shot the JayHawks 18-10, moved to 6-2 in the league and 8-5 overall as they head into the final week of the regular season.
MCS goalkeeper Megan McKenna tallied seven saves for the Blue Devils, who will face the visiting Rams of South Kortright at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. They will finish out the regular season at Gilboa at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
Roxbury 0, Hunter 2
The Roxbury girls dropped a tough 2-0 decision to the visiting Wildcats of Hunter-Tannersville on Thursday. The game remained deadlocked at a scoreless tie throughout the first half and nearly halfway through the second, until the Wildcats’ Grace Berger gave H-T the go-ahead goal off a corner kick.
The Rockets were unable to find the net, despite out-shooting the Wildcats 10-8 and holding a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Roxbury goalkeeper Tarah DiBenedetto tallied five saves for the Rockets, who faced the Wildcats of Gilboa on Tuesday; no score was available at press time. Roxbury will finish out the regular season when they host the visiting Mountaineers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
