Anderson wins 8th time in Delaware Cty. Tourney

Delhi — While the big news out of Delhi Sunday was Brad Anderson’s record eighth Delaware County Amateur Golf Championship, the impressive showing of golfers from the eastern end of the county was also much discussed.
Joe Siclare of Vega finished in a tie for second place with Walton resident Len Govern, five strokes behind Anderson in the championship flight. Joe finished fourth last year.
Highmount’s Jack Jordan won the A Flight on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff with Delhi resident Eli Townsend.
Margaretville’s Gary Atkin won the B Flight with a three-day score of 233, four strokes better than anyone in the flight above. Gary is a lifelong area golfer.
Chan Squires sank a four or five foot putt on the 54th and final hole to go one stroke better than his pairing partner, Martin Way, and win the C Flight. A graduate of Margaretville Central School, Chan, who sported a Hanah Country Club shirt, lives in Roxbury.
Three previous county champions have listed Roxbury as home: Jason Trahan in 1996, Dominic Michel in 1988, and Glen Parizo in 1987.
Margaretville has been the home of 1982 and ‘84 county champion, Tom Sanford, and to Tom Sluiter, who won in 1976 and 1978.
