Acclaimed playwright brings two plays to Roxbury

Roxbury — Todd Mountain Theater Project (TMTP) and The Roxbury Arts Group (RAG) are joining together to present two plays by Marc Wolf in one long weekend, August 11 through 14.
Wolf, who is familiar to Pakatakan Market-goers for assisting his partner Craig Thompson of
Shandaken Bake the past few years, will perform selected monologues from his Obie-winning play “Another American: Asking and Telling.” Assembled from over 150 interviews about the experience of gay men and women serving in the military, this solo show is a moving, provocative piece of theater. The New Yorker review called Wolf “a master” and described the play as “hilarious, as rich as a novel, exceptional and engrossing.”  A film version is scheduled for release this fall. USA Today named it a “top 10 play of the year.”

Marc Wolf says, “I’m thrilled to be part of the Catskills performing arts community this summer. I’m very excited to be sharing the stories of “Another American” with Todd Mountain Theater Project and The Roxbury Arts Group audiences and am eager to workshop my new play “Getting Home” with Ken Rus Schmoll and the truly brilliant cast, in this engaging and supportive environment.”
Alternating with “Another American” will be a staged reading of Wolf’s new play directed by Schmoll, “Getting Home,” about the aftermath of 9/11. The Village Voice says, “Ken Rus Schmoll is one of the sharpest new-play interpreters out there.” The cast includes Piter Marek, Lynne McCollough and Rocco Sisto— all with impressive stage, film and TV credits.

Getting Home is particularly timely, with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 only several weeks away. Based on interviews conducted by Wolf, it looks into people’s thoughts and feelings about 9/11 and also examines Wolf’s relationship with his parents, particularly his father who joins him on a cross-country trip to gather material.

TMTP artistic director Suzanne Pred Bass says “This is an incredible opportunity to see what will undoubtedly be a successful NYC play as it gets its wings here at The Roxbury Arts Group.” She adds, “Each year I am blown away by the caliber of artists and writing that we bring to Delaware County and to have these two great plays in one long weekend tops it all.”
Performances of “Another American: Asking and Telling” are Thursday, Aug.11 and Saturday Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Performances of “Getting Home” are Friday, Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug.14 at 2 p.m.
Marc Wolf and/or Ken Rus Schmoll will host a question and answer session after all performances.
Tickets are $15 or $25 for both plays if reserved by August 5. Call The Roxbury Arts Center at 607 326-7908.
