40 teams to play in Mville indoor tourney
Margaretville — The Margaretville Central School (MCS) Booster Club will host its ninth annual indoor soccer tournament at MCS on Friday evening March 9 and all day Saturday, March 10.
The tournament will include 40 teams divided into four age groups. The sixth- to eighth-grade bracket will be Friday evening starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday the action will begin with the high-school boys starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by the high-school girls at 12:40 p.m. The tournament will end with the “Old Timers” bracket starting at 5 p.m. Teams will arrive from Davenport, Delhi, Ellenville, Gilboa, Oneonta, Schenevus, Rhinebeck, Roxbury, and Walton.
Tournament sponsors include many area business, led by Corporate Sponsor Fox Soccer Network, along with the MTC Telcom.com, Margaretville Fire Department, Coldwell Banker-Timberland Properties, The Flour Patch, Fruitful Furnishings, Miller’s Drug Store, Mathiesen Builders, Oakley’s Pizza, Sluiter Agency, Inc., Tanzer Accounting, The Margaretville Country Store, and the Cheese Barrel.
Indoor soccer is similar to outdoor, but there are differences. Indoor is played with a heavy ball called a futsal ball. Games are 15-minutes long, with four or five member teams.
The Academy Street entrance to MCS will open at 4:30 p.m. on Friday evening and 8 a.m. on Saturday with the first games at 8:30 a.m. There is no charge for admission, and the Booster Club will be selling an assortment of refreshments.
