11th annual Snowmobile Races at Plattekill Mountain this weekend

Snowmobile drag racing will hit the slopes of Plattekill Mountain in Roxbury on March 29 and 30. This year will mark the resort’s 11th annual event and is sure to bring excitement to all ages whether racer or race fan. What started out as a fun race between a few sleds has turned into an event that brings close to 350 racers each year. 
Race categories are separated by snowmobiles big and small, old and new and features categories for just about all types and sizes of sleds.  Engines will be roaring and the heat will be on as competitors challenge each other to the top of the mountain’s 500-foot drag strip in a quest for the coveted “King of the Hill” 2008 title. 
The racing action begins both days at 10 a.m.  Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.  The event will follow a single elimination format as it has in past years.  The weekend’s activities will include live music both Saturday and Sunday, plus food specials, spirits and a raffle both Saturday and Sunday with items donated by local area businesses and snowmobile shops.  Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category.  Gate fee admission is $10 for one day, $12 for two days and kids under five years old are free.  Race entry fee is $25 per class.  Races are on rain, snow or shine!

Plattekill Mountain will be closed for skiing and snowboarding March 29-30 weekend for the snowmobile races, however the slopes are planned to reopen the following weekend weather permitting.
