Allyce B. Bolger earns RPI honors

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has announced that Allyce B. Bolger of Roxbury, a sophomore, has been named to the institute’s dean’s list for the Spring semester.
The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who maintain grade-point averages of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 and have no grades below a “C.”


Area students earn end of year awards

Students from Margaretville, Andes and Roxbury central schools earned a number of prizes at the 2008 commencement ceremonies.


Students earn honors, degrees from State University at Delhi

Several local students have either graduated from of have been honored for academic achievement following the Spring Semester at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi.


Five senior students win prizes from Catskill Heritage Alliance

Five local high school seniors received the Catskill Heritage Alliance (CHA) writing prize at graduation ceremonies held by the four area high schools.


Roxbury grad earns medical degree

The family of Tracey Ann Perazone proudly announces her graduation from The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry on Friday, May 16.


Major Maender receives degree

Major Ryan Maender, U.S. Army, son of Jo Ann and Norman Maender of Margaretville and Scotia, received a Master of Science degree in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va., on June 13.
He is being deployed to Fort Lewis, Washington and another tour of duty in Iraq.
Ryan is the grandson of Doris and Russ Cariot of Margaretville.


ACS, MCS and RCS announce top students for the Class of 2008

Three area schools have announced the names of their valedictorians and salutatorians for the 2007-08 academic year. Andes Central School recognized Cheyenne Tait and Carrianne Fairbairn as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively. Roxbury Central School named Alisa Fersch and Michelle Massell, while Margaretville Central School named Nevin Perez and Aja Jenkins.


Finkel earns law degree from Tulane

Sayde Finkel, daughter of Cheryl Stelter and Steve Finkel of New Kingston, graduated from Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans in May.
An honors graduate from Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., in 2005, Sayde originally attended Tulane for just one week during August of 2005, but was forced to evacuate just prior to Hurricane Katrina and spent that fall interning at a law firm in Chicago.


Local student earns Dean's List honors at Adirondack CC

Adam Barrett, the son of Thomas and Anne Barrett of Andes, has been placed on the Dean’s List for the Spring Semester at Adirondack Community College in Queensbury.


Phoenicia students win state contest for "green" project

Students from the Phoenicia Elementary School in the Onteora School District have won first place in their division in the state senate’s 17th annual I*MA*GREEN*NATION contest.
Phoenicia music teacher David Laks in collaboration with fourth-grade teacher Sharon McInerney and her talented class showed its true colors – green – this week when it won the award, a statewide competition sponsored by Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope), that focuses on environmental problems and solutions.
