Williams leads MCS to victory at Windham meet

Margaretville Central School ski racer Ian Williams had a big day Friday when he won both the men’s slalom and giant slalom at a five-team meet at Windham Mountain. Williams’ performance carried the Margaretville team to second place finishes in both races.

Williams’ teammate, Caleb Todd, finished in seventh place in both the slalom and giant slalom races.


Andes girls win pair of hoop contests; Roxbury boys win in OT

Patience is a virtue. Eleven times they had gone to the well and 11 times they had come up dry. Last week the Andes girls’ basketball team finally quenched their thirst. The Lady Mountaineers won, not once, but two times, beating Windham, 65-26, on the road early in the week, then stunning Hunter-Tannersville, 38-37, on their home court on Thursday night.


Margartville bests Windham; SK downs the Rockets

Mitch Hull and Danny Jenkins teamed to score 19 points in the third quarter as Margaretville outscored Windham, 23-5, and rolled over Windham, 62-33, Monday night. The third quarter onslaught broke open a tight contest. Margaretville led by only 26-24 at the half.

The prowess of the South Kortright and Margaretville teams on the soccer field this fall was apparent when The Daily Star of Oneonta announced its area all-star selections Saturday.
Five players from South Kortright and Margaretville were selected as all-stars. Andes senior Peter Fabrykiewicz was named the 2010 Player of the Year.

Tough week for local basketball

The Roxbury girls’ basketball team showed why they are one of the most improved teams in the Delaware League battling first place South Kortright in the first half before falling, 56-32. After falling behind in the first eight minutes, the Rockets outscored SK, 10-6, in the second period to draw within five, 23-18, by the half.

Andes players help pace unbeaten SK

In their sports merger with Andes, the South Kortright Rams found a gift that keeps on giving.
The Rams incorporated the play of four Andes soccer players this fall to capture both the Delaware League and Section IV boys’ soccer championships, going undefeated before falling in state regional play.
