Area Police News: august 7, 2013

Steven Katz, 51, of Merrick was arrested by state police on July 30 and charged with DWI after he was stopped on Bridge Street in Margaretville for a traffic violation.
Police say they charged Katz when his blood alcohol level tested .13 percent. He was arraigned in Town of Middletown Justice Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $500 cash bail to await further court action on August 8 at 10 a.m.

Area Police News: July 31, 2013

Members of the Shandaken Police Department report a serious personal injury automobile/motorcycle accident that happened on July 27 on Route 28 in Big Indian.
Arkady Zlotnik, 76, of East Jewett was traveling west bound on Route 28 in a 2010 Honda Accord when he made a left turn into the Big Indian Park in front of Keith W. Ruckh, 57, of Palenville who was eastbound on Route 28 riding a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Ruckh’s motorcycle hit the passenger side front fender of the Honda, ejecting him over the car and landing him on the opposite side of the car on the roadway.

Area Police News: July 24, 2013

David R. VanHoesen, 52, of Harpersfield was arrested by state police on July 14 and charged with DWI after police responded to a 911 call and found him at his home, lying on the ground outside his vehicle. Police say he failed a field sobriety test but then refused further cooperation.
Police say they charged VanHoesen with DWI and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Town of Stamford Justice Court where he posted $500 cash bail to await further court action on August 9 at 1 p.m.

Area Police News: July 17, 2013

Six Roxbury area boys, ages 16 and 17, have admitted their part in a vandalism spree at Shephard Hills Golf Course in Roxbury on Tuesday night, July 2 during which more than $25,000 in damage was done to several golf carts and other property at the historic golf course.
Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson told the News on Monday that physical evidence left at the scene, including two belts and some beverage containers, quickly led him to the boys.

Area Police News: July 10, 2013

Hristos A. Papagiannopoulos, 33, of Gilboa was arrested by state police on July 6 and charged with unlawful possession of fireworks after he allegedly threw an M80 firework out of his vehicle on Route 30 near Margaretville.
Police say that also charged Papagiannopoulos with reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was issued appearance tickets returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court on July 11.

New York State Police and Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson are investigating a serious case of vandalism that happened late Monday night or early Tuesday morning at Shephard Hills Golf Club in Roxbury. Golf course owner Frank Adamiak told the News Tuesday morning that the damage, “will run into thousands of dollars.”

Area Police News: June 26, 2013

At about noon last week Tuesday, several area fire, emergency services and law enforcement agencies responded to the area of Sherwood Bridge in Delhi as a result of a 911 call reporting a possible drowning in the West Branch of the Delaware River.
A witness, who was kayaking with the victim, reported that Donald C. Shamus, 21, of Delhi had fallen from the top of his capsized kayak and was swept away by the current. Shamus was not wearing a personal floatation device at the time of the incident. The witness was unable to rescue Shamus and summoned help.

Area Police News: June 19, 2013

Dawn Anderson, 43, of Hamden was arrested by state police on June 14 and charged with DWI following a one-car property damage accident on Gregory Hollow Road in the Town of Colchester.
Police say they charged Anderson when her blood alcohol level allegedly tested .09 percent.
She was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Colchester Justice Court on June 25.
Ronald K. Conrow, 49, of Delhi was arrested by state police on June 12 and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief following a domestic dispute, Police say alcohol was a factor in the incident.

George Wyble, 62, of Cottone Road, Roxbury was arrested on June 7 and charged with the May 27 shooting a bear out of season and with shooting across a town road.
Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson reports that the case began when he investigated a report of a bear being hit by a car on Ferris Hill Road on Memorial Day.
Williamson contacted Town of Roxbury Highway Department personnel who removed the 60-pound animal and buried it.

Area Police News: June 5, 2013

On Thursday afternoon, May 30, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies, acting on a complaint from security officers at Covidien Healthcare in Hobart, arrested and charged a former Covidien employee for the theft and possession of Hydrocodone tablets from that manufacturer.
Wayne A. Morse, III, 26, of Hobart was arrested and charged with the misdemeanor crimes of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
