Area Police News: April 6, 2011

An elderly Stamford man died last week Wednesday at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown following a one-car accident on Sunday, March 26 on Route 23 between Stamford and Grand Gorge.
Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson reports that a car operated by Alfonzo Masciandaro, 79, of Stamford was westbound on Route 23 when the driver lost control of his vehicle, hit the guardrails, flipped over the rails and went down an embankment. Williamson told the News that Masciandaro may have lost control of his vehicle due to an illness.


Area Police News: March 30, 2011

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged Christopher M. Merwin, 35, of Delhi last week Wednesday in connection with the theft of a safe containing $3,300 from the Delaware County Solid Waste Management Facility last May following an investigation by sheriff’s investigators and investigators assigned to New York State Police in Margaretville and Deposit.


Area Police News: March 23, 2011

Arthur Melvin, 39, of Andes was arrested by state police Thursday and charged with DWI after he was stopped on Route 28 in Margaretville for driving over the center line. Police say they charged Melvin when his blood alcohol level allegedly tested .12 percent.
He was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court on March 28.

Shane B. Briggs, 21, of Stamford was arrested by state police Friday following a one-car property damage accident on Route 30 in the Town of Roxbury.


Police News: March 16, 2011

Elizabeth P. Haskin, 50, of Roxbury was arrested by state police Friday and charged with DWI after she was stopped on Route 30 in Roxbury for a traffic violation.
Police say they charged Haskin when her blood alcohol level allegedly tested .21 percent. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Roxbury Justice Court on March 21 at 7 p.m.

Gerard A. Harkin, 56, of New York City and Margaretville was arrested by state police Sunday and charged with DWI after he was stopped on county Highway 3 near Margaretville for a traffic violation.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged a Town of Hamden man on March 1 with two counts of first-degree falsifying business records and two counts of criminal purchase of a weapon. Jonathan C.


Area Police News: March 2, 2011

Delaware County Deputies arrested Douglas L. Jones of Hamden on February 18 for first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a class E felony, and third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony. Douglas was arraigned in Town of Hamden Court and released on his own recognizance to reappear in the Town of Delhi Court on March 15.


Area Police News: Feb. 23, 2011

Joyce A. Finch, 34, of Pine Hill was arrested by state police last week Wednesday and charged with driving with a suspended license and an expired inspection sticker.
Finch was arraigned in Town of Middletown Justice Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $250 bail to await further court action.


Area Police News: Feb. 16, 2011

A Margaretville man was sent to the county jail last week Monday and faces a number of charges after he ran his car into a ditch at the intersection of county Route 38 and Route 30 in the Town of Middletown while he was allegedly fleeing from state police. Police say the incident began on Route 28 in Fleischmanns when they allegedly observed a westbound Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Erik R.


Police News: Feb. 9, 2011

A Margaretville area man was charged Friday with DWAI and moving from his lane unsafely after his car went off the Bragg Hollow Road and into a ravine when he allegedly took his eyes off the roadway to extinguish a cigarette and lost control of his car.


Police News: Feb. 2, 2011

Shandaken Police report the arrest of Richard C. Paradies, 56, of Mount Tremper last week Wednesday morning. Police say Paradies was wanted in Delaware County by the sheriff’s office for failure to pay child support.
Paradies was turned over to sheriff’s investigators and remanded to the Delaware County Jail for a term of six months incarceration.
