Pearline Glavin

Pearline Adelia Glavin died April 20, 2013 in Gainesville, FL surrounded by family members. She was 93 years old.

Pearline was born February 6, 1920 in Lexington and lived many happy years in Prattsville.
She is survived by three daughters, Fern M. Duncan Glavin, Penelope R. Eshleman, and Carol Glavin; a son, Frederick L. Glavin; a sister, Joan Hinkley, and five grandchildren. She leaves behind her beloved cat, Poppy.

Pearline was predeceased by her husband, Frederick C. Glavin; her mother and father, Frank and Climena Layman, and a brother-in-law, Leighton Hinkley.


Ezra Birnbaum

Ezra Birnbaum, 81, of Manhattan and Highmount, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, May 27, 2013.

We loved Ezra so much because he gave his all for everything he believed in. He had an incredible ability to understand others’ points of view.


Jean St. John

Jean C. St. John of Washingtonville died peacefully on May 11, 2013 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. She was 63 years old.

Jean was born in the Bronx on July 18, 1949 to Kevin and Jean Farrell Millar. She worked as billing liaison for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, P.C. of New Windsor for 13 years. Jean was an adoring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Jean was an avid gardener who loved and adored her children and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.


Lynn Vermilyea

On Friday, May 24, 2013, Lynn Donald Vermilyea began reaping the rewards of his faith as he met Jesus Christ, his Savior, face to face in heaven. 

Lynn was born in Margaretville in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York to Ray and Lillian Vermilyea. He married Nancy Rosa after high school and they enjoyed 51 years together before Nancy went to heaven in 2002.


Neil Maizner

Neil Leonard Maizner, 73, devoted, husband, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away in Aventura, FL on March 24, 2013, while hospitalized for pneumonia. His two sons were at his bedside.


Marie Colliton

Marie Pindar Colliton, 89, a resident of Grand Gorge, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

Marie was born July 31, 1923, in Grand Gorge, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Carman) Pindar. She graduated from Grand Gorge Central and from New York State College at Delhi.
Marie was employed as a dietician at schools in Hamburg, Schenectady and Gilboa. She also had worked at the Allen Center at South Kortright.

Marie enjoyed bowling and traveling with friends. She attended the Grand Gorge Methodist Church.


Elizabeth Hendricks

Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Hendricks, 80, of Margaretville was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 2, 2013. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born in Orange, NJ on November 28, 1932, the daughter of Delma Clausen and Brutus Bidault. She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell, NJ in 1950.
Betty married the love of her life, George James Hendricks, on July 26, 1952 in Fairfield, NJ and soon after started their family in George’s hometown of Margaretville.


Loretta Johannsen

Loretta Jean Johannsen, 79, a resident of Roxbury, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Stamford.
She was born Oct. 4, 1933, in Cobleskill. Jean graduated from Grand Gorge Central School. She has been a lifelong area resident.

She married Joseph Johannsen on October 25, 1978, at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Roxbury.

Loretta is by her husband, Joseph Johannsen; two daughters and their spouses, Barbara and Wade Spanhake, and Beth and Richard Cleveland; grandson, Seth Spanhake; granddaughter, Tranquility Cleveland; sister, Leona Knox and brother, William Mattice.


Foster Borfitz

Foster P. Borfitz, a resident of Roxbury, died Thursday May 2, 2013 at Margaretville Hospital following a long illness.

He was born November 26, 1942, the son of Charles and Katherine (Sprague) Borfitz at Inwood.
Foster married Adrian Lombardo in December of 1964 and they raised five children before moving to Roxbury in 1999.


Cheryl Stetler

Cheryl R. Stelter of New Kingston passed away on April 30, 2013 after a lengthy illness and battle with cancer.

As Cheryl’s husband for 35 years, I struggled with how to summarize one’s life in a brief obituary and still do her justice.
