Ruth Haight

Ruth Ellen Haight, 94, a resident of Grand Gorge died at her home with family members by her side on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014.
Ruth was born at the family home on Ferris Hill, Grand Gorge on June 25, 1919, the daughter of Manley and Gertrude (Brooks) Murray. She married Edwin Haight on September 20, 1942 in Grand Gorge. He died on March 9, 1995.


Toby Roe

Toby Diane Roe, 67, of Fleischmanns went to heaven on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at her residence.
She was born July 31, 1946 in Gallipolis, OH to the late Laverne Morrison and surviving John Morrison of Wildwood, NJ. She graduated from Jackson High School in Jackson, OH in 1964. She married Robert C. Roe on May 5, 1973 in Cape Cod, MA.
Toby started her family in Brewster, MA where she and Bob lived for 10 years and had two children. They moved and lived in Toms River, NJ for 20 years until she and her husband retired to the Catskills in 2004.


Sally Angell

Sally B. Angell, 59, of Manlius, was ushered into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born February 15, 1954 in Margaretville to Rev. George and Doris Sanford, presently of New Woodstock.


Cecil Powell

Cecil “Jake” Powell, a resident of North Blenheim in the Town of Gilboa, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at Albany Medical Center.
Jake was born on September 30, 1933 at Prattsville, the son of Jacob and Agnes (McMurdy) Powell.
He served in the military during the Korean War. He was employed as plant manager for the Williamson Veneer wood factory in Fleischmanns.
Jake had lived in this region before moving to Virginia where he lived for 24 years.


William Johnston

William David Johnston, 77, died at his Kelly Corners residence on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.
William was born May 18, 1936 at Mount Kisco, the son of William and Catheren Emma (Litkenhaus) Johnston.
He had been a resident of Kelly Corners since 1974.  William served in the military during the Korean War and was a member of Middletown American Legion Post 216.
William is survived by a daughter, Carol L. Vieira, of Fort Bragg, CA.
Funeral Services will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.


Clarence Gibson

Clarence D. Gibson, 93, formerly of Andes died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at HealthAlliance Hospital, Broadway Campus in Kingston.
Born September 13, 1920 on Wolf Hollow Road in Andes, he was a son of the late George and Maria (Reynolds) Gibson.
Clarence was employed in the maintenance division for the State University of New York at Delhi until his retirement in1983. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Andes Fire Department.


Donald Broekema

Donald Broekema, 52, of Roxbury passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.
Don was the son of John and Barbara Broekema, born on October 19, 1961 just a few minutes after his twin brother John (Jay). They were later joined by his little sister Deborah. He grew up in Mt. Tremper, and graduated from Onteora Central School.


Hazel Crosby

Hazel T. Crosby, 96, of West Settlement Road, Halcott Center died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 Margaretville Hospital. 
A native and lifelong resident of the Catskill Mountains, Hazel was the daughter of Andrew and Virginia (Bryant) Thompson. She was born November 1, 1917 in a home her father built next to the Big Indian Firehouse.  She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Big Indian, and graduated from Fleischmanns High School in the Class of 1937. 


Elizabeth Van Buren

Elizabeth R. Van Buren, 88, of Canajoharie, and formerly of St. Johnsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 at her home.
She was born March 15, 1925 in Roxbury, the daughter of the late Henry and Beulah (Roberts) Morse and was a graduate of Roxbury Central School.
Her marriage to Stewart B. Van Buren took place on March 15, 1946 in Denver. The couple shared a blessed union of 67 years until the passing of Stewart on July 19, 2013.
Mrs. Van Buren was last employed at Margaretville Hospital as a food service supervisor.


Helen Aulino

Helen Marie Aulino, a resident of Cobleskill, and formerly of Roxbury, died Sunday, Dec.  22, 2013 at Albany Medical Center.
Helen was born on April 18, 1935 at Paterson, NJ, the daughter of Cornelius and Helen (Garry) Tanis. She married Joseph T. Aulino Sr. on September 20, 1959 at Paterson, NJ. Joe died on October 31, 2010.
Helen was employed as an office assistant for Bright Star Battery in New Jersey and after moving to Roxbury she assisted her husband in operating Bates Real Estate. Helen lived in New Jersey before moving to Roxbury and had also lived in Florida and Cobleskill.
