Joyce L. Mansheffer, 79, of 61 Swart Street, Margaretville, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at O’Connor Hospital, Delhi.

Madeline Wallace

Born February 12, 1919 in Watertown, MA, Madeline rose to God’s side one week before her 89th birthday.
Madeline had resided in Newington, Glastonbury and Vernon, CT, and for the last years with her twin sister Marge Smith in Lecanto, FL. Mostly she cherished her home in Roxbury, NY.

Marian Fiedler

Marian Fiedler, 86, formerly of Cobleskill, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born in New York, NY on August 1, 1921, a daughter of the late John D. and Dorothy (Martin) Dunhoff.

Stratton Todd

Stratton H. Todd, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
He was born in Margaretville on December 17, 1925 the son of the late Roy and Eunice Jacobson Todd.
He was a native, lifelong resident and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed both fishing and hunting.

Mark Wranovics

Mark Stephen Wranovics, 37, of Firehouse Road, Big Indian, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Troy on September 3, 1970, the son of the late Michael Wranovics and Veronica “Ronnie” Graham Wranovics.
He was a graduate of Margaretville Central School and loved music. He enjoyed listening to music and singing and sharing quality time with friends.

Harold Weiss

Harold Weiss died on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008 at Dobbs Ferry Hospital in Westchester at the age of 101. Although his body was ravaged by the assault of multiple disease processes, he retained his clarity of mind, vestiges of his handsome visage, an indomitable will and his lion’s heart.

Marjorie H. Brainard

Marjorie H. Brainard, 69, of Bruce Porn Road, Stamford, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at her residence.

John J. Varian

John J. Varian, 60, Third Marines, 4th Division, Lima Company, Vietnam 66-67, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 of heart failure. He was a casualty of war.

Maude Palmer

Maude Helen Palmer, 94, died peacefully Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2007 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home, Stamford.
Known by friends and family as Helen, she was born in Halcott Center on December 29, 1912. She was a direct descendant of the original settlers of the Batavia Kill and Middletown, the daughter of William J. Palmatier of Margaretville and Beatrice E. Whipple Palmatier of Halcott Center.
She was married and widowed three times, first by Eder S. Davis of Vega, then Floyd Banks of Turnwood and finally by John Palmer of South Otselic. She was a longtime resident of Vega, Halcottsville, Roxbury and Cincinnatus.
In addition to being a homemaker, she worked at the John Hewitt and Peter Gray boarding houses in Denver for several years.
